"Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for a while and leave footprints on our hearts. And we are never, ever the same" Last year, I spent three incredible days in the Ukraine with the adorable children of the Tikva Children's Home. While deeply troubled by the circumstances that led each child to this Odessa orphanage, I was inspired by the promising future and the loving environment that Tikva's staff provided for them each and every day. One of the highlights of my trip was the connection I developed with a very special eleven-year-old boy named Chaim. We enjoyed several hours together conversing in broken Hebrew and English, and playing at the local arcade. Amidst our time together I learned that Chaim was raised by his grandparents and kept in an outdoor doghouse while the dog slept in the family home. At Tikva, Chaim receives loving support and attention, and is currently developing his musical talents through regular violin lessons. Each Tikva child has his or her own story, many far more traumatic than Chaim's. Tikva rescues these children from loveless homes and the dead-end streets to a future filled with promise where each child can develop his or her own unique talents and interests.
